The eighteenth annual Springfield production of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker, comes to the Kuss stage, featuring a cast of over 150 local students of the arts, professional dancers, and community members. The Nutcracker was the third and last of the great ballet scores Tchaikovsky completed for the Imperial Theatres in Russia. First performed in 1892 by the Maryinsky Ballet, The Nutcracker has long been considered a classic ballet piece. Set in the early nineteenth century, The Nutcracker, based on a story by E.T.A. Hoffman, tells of a young girl named Clara and her magical Christmas dream. Even if ballet is "not your thing" this production is sure to please. Combining classical ballet choreography with the story-telling appeal of musical theatre, The Nutcracker will inspire a love of ballet in almost anyone. Join us for an uplifting and magical evening to begin your holiday season. The Nutcracker features live orchestration from the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ian Polster.
